About Us
Discover the Delta County Ambulance District (DCAD)
Established in 1999, the Delta County Ambulance District (DCAD) is the result of the amalgamation of two distinguished Emergency Medical Services (EMS) entities, previously operated by the Town of Cedaredge and the Delta County Fire District #1. Today, DCAD plays a pivotal role in serving an expansive region that spans 330 square miles, encompassing 55% of the County's rural population. This vital service area comprises Delta Fire District #1, as well as the fire districts of Cedaredge and Orchard City, underlining the comprehensive coverage provided by DCAD.
DCAD's dedicated crews are extensively trained and equipped to offer Advanced Life Support services, ensuring that the community receives top-notch care in times of medical emergencies. The agency's commitment extends to both emergent and non-emergent transport services throughout the district.
Furthermore, DCAD takes pride in its ability to provide critical care during rural search and rescue operations, collaborating seamlessly with St. Mary's CareFlight to enhance patient care and transport. In addition, the agency facilitates essential transports to and between the county's skilled nursing facilities and assisted living communities, ensuring the health and well-being of residents.
In terms of infrastructure, the Delta station serves as the nerve center, housing the business office, crew quarters, and four fully-equipped ambulances. In spring 2006, the completion of Station 2 marked a significant milestone, as it replaced the previously rented facilities in Cedaredge. This second station features a 3-bedroom modular home with a spacious attached garage, accommodating two ambulances.
Our operations run seamlessly with a workforce comprising three shifts, each consisting of 6 dedicated crew members who rotate to provide round-the-clock, seven days a week coverage at both stations. Every shift includes the expertise of at least one Critical Care Paramedic, ensuring that our patients receive the highest level of care, no matter the time or situation.

Welcome to Delta County Ambulance District
Delta County is equipped with essential healthcare resources, boasting one acute care hospital, two skilled nursing facilities, and three assisted living communities. Notably, the region's Level II Trauma Center is located at St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Junction.
In times of critical medical emergencies, our CareFlight emergency helicopter service is readily available to ensure the swift and safe transportation of patients to the most suitable receiving facility.
Delta County Ambulance Agency (DCAD) is dedicated to providing both Advanced Life Support (ALS) and Critical Care Support for a wide range of patients, addressing emergent and non-emergent cases, as well as facilitating critical transports within a 70-mile radius.
In 2022, DCAD responded to a total of 3,660 911-calls and 284 Mobile Integrated Health calls, encompassing various scenarios such as emergent and non-emergent patient care, lift assists, transfers to specialized and higher-level medical centers, and the critical transport of patients.
Our skilled team comprises 30 full-time EMTs and Paramedics, complemented by 20 EMTs and Paramedics who work on an as-needed basis. To ensure round-the-clock availability, we maintain three dedicated crews operating from two well-equipped stations. In Delta, two crews remain on duty 24 hours a day, seven days a week, while the Eckert Station is staffed with one crew operating around the clock. Our crews are comprised of both ALS and BLS EMTs, with the added presence of a Critical Care Paramedic on each shift, supported by two Mental Health Transport Team medics. We are committed to delivering exceptional care when it matters most.
